1-Deoxynojirimycin, or DNJ, is a naturally occurring alkaloid that is most commonly found in mulberry leaves.

Its ability to inhibit a small intestine enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates gives it anti-hyperglycemic, anti-obese, anti-viral and anti-tumor properties.

DNJ is being studied for potential health benefits, including diabetes management and weight control.
